Puerto de Santiago

The town of Puerto de Santiago is located on the south-west coast of Tenerife, right between the holiday resorts Los Gigantes and Playa de la Arena. Three towns that have almost grown together.

The beach in Puerto de Santiago
Puerto de Santiago has a small beach located in a rocky bay. The beach has dark lava sand mixed with rocks in some places. The water is clear, but there are rocks some places under the surface of the water.

There are no facilities at the beach in Puerto de Santiago, so remember your sunshade, if you are used to sitting in the shade. It is rumoured that the beach is to be extended, or that a new beach is to be established in Puerto Santiago, but so far it is still a rumour.

Child-friendliness
There is not much room to play and there are rocks in the water. Apart from this, the beach is relatively child-friendly.

Water sports
There are no water sports facilities at the beach in Puerto de Santiago.

Beach restaurants
There are a few small restaurants on the way to the beach. However, during the high season, refreshments are sold right next to the beach.

Puerto de Santiago holiday resort
Puerto de Santiago is not quite as fancy as its two neighbouring towns, but it has a more authentic Canary charm to it. There are relatively many local residents in Puerto de Santiago and that helps to raise the quality of the restaurants. There are also some bars, but the nightlife is quiet.

The best hotel in Puerto de Santiago is the 4-star Barcelo Santiago – Adults Only, which has an amazing pool area and stunning ocean views.

The authorities have begun to renovate the town, and one of the first initiatives was to build a path alongside the coast all the way to the outskirts of Los Gigantes. A beautiful walk with a view to the island of La Gomera.
