Masca
Masca is still unknown to many, but it is without a doubt one of the most beautiful mountain villages in Tenerife, in fact one of the most beautiful in the Canary Islands. In recent years, Masca has become a very popular sightseeing destination, although not as popular as the Teide volcano 20 kilometres to the east.
The trip alone to the charming village is well worth it. Travelling through the mountainous Teno Natural Park, the winding mountain roads offer views of steep canyons, wild nature and impressive mountains. This drive is not for people who get carsick easily!

Masca’s history dates back to the Guanches, the indigenous population of the Canary Islands. In the town’s museum, you can immerse yourself in the development from then until today, where around 100 permanent inhabitants live in the village. Mainly catering for the visiting tourists.
The heart of Masca is the Plaza de Masca, where a 200-year-old ficus tree stands next to a pretty little church. Several beautiful stone houses surround the church, and the town has a broad selection of restaurants and cafes. You have breathtaking views almost anywhere in the city.
Masca is a great starting point for hiking. The most popular route is the Camino del Barranco de Masca, which goes through the picturesque gorge down to Masca beach, Playa de Masca. It’s an incredibly beautiful hike, but also quite demanding. The walk down to the beach takes about 3 hours, and from the beach’s small jetty it is possible to organise a boat trip to the town of Los Gigantes.
Those who choose to hike back to Masca should prepare for a more demanding hike up the canyon. Regardless of whether you hike both ways, bring good footwear, plenty of water and food for the walk.

Approximately in the centre of the map is the large tree that partly covers the church. For those arriving by car, there is parking just east of the tree/church. The beach is to the south-west.
