Playa San
Marcos
The small
fishing village San Marcos is located on the
north coast of Tenerife. The much larger
holiday resort
Puerto de la Cruz
is about 20 kilometres away.
The beach in general
Playa San Marcos is a lovely small beach on
the rough north coast of Tenerife.
The beach is
approx. 100 metres long and well protected
inside a bay. The view from the beach is
outstanding with a small harbour on the east
side and steep rock formations on the west
side.
The beach is
covered with fine-grained, dark lava sand.
The water has lovely blue and turquoise
shades. A beautiful sight when you see the
beach from one of the many high lookout
points.
The facilities
at the beach include sun lounges, showers
and toilets. Visitors coming by car will
have no problem finding a free parking space
close to the beach.
Child-friendliness
The beach is well protected against waves
and this makes Playa San Marcos one of the
most child-friendly beaches on the north
coast.
Water sports
There are no water sports facilities at
the beach in San Marcos, but on most days
the bay is calm enough to take a long swim.
Beach restaurants
There are 3-4 restaurants right behind the
beach. From here, there is a fantastic view
of the beach, the bay and the mountains.
The fishing village San Marcos
San Marcos is a quite small and charming
fishing village, which has not been
influenced much by the tourism in Tenerife.
There are a few
hotels i the village and also quite many
holiday apartments. There is a fine
selection of restaurants with many delicious
fish courses on the menu. There are also a
few small bars.
The larger town
Icod de los Vinos is located less than two
kilometres away. In the new quarter, there
are all kinds of 'real' shops, whereas the
old quarter and its tourist shops are nice
to stroll around in.
